Kifaru Jitsu

Kifaru-Jitsu is a hard/soft eclectic system in which the primary emphasis is the practical self-defense aspect of the Martial Arts.

The characteristics of the system are a combination of hard and soft blocks based on a foundation of basic karate techniques.  Students learn to block and strike in rapid succession to quickly incapacitate their opponent.  Additional techniques that employ joint manipulations, breaks, throws and sweeps are also part of curriculum.  Students are taught to observe an assailant and interpret the assailant’s physical intentions and limitations based on the systems theory of movement.

High ranking Masters within the system have brought knowledge of other Martial Arts styles and systems which have been incorporated into the Kifaru-Jitsu once they have met the requirements of effectiveness and economy of motion.

Sensei Carl A. Davis

Sensei Carl (C.J.) Davis grew up in Chino, California in the late 70s through the entire decade of the 80s.  As a child, Sensei Davis was heavily influenced by martial arts film and television, most notably Enter The Dragon, The Karate Kid films, American Ninja, the Side Kicks television series, and the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film series. Davis wanted to begin training in the martial arts while in Chino, but his father was against it for fear of liability if he were to injure anyone.

In 1990 at the age of 15, Sensei Davis and his family relocated to Vichy, Missouri where he attended Vienna High School.  There, Davis excelled in Track and Field taking medals in numerous events each year until graduation.  It was during this time in high school that he met Grandmaster Stanford McNeal at a Grand Opening of his new Dojo in Rolla, Missouri.  Sensei Davis trained with Master McNeal in the art of Kifaru-Jitsu, a hard/soft eclectic style composed of Kenpo, Shoto-Kan, and Kong-Soo-Do with various other systems incorporated into  Kifaru.  During his time with Master McNeal, He reached the rank of 2nd Degree Blackbelt, and attended numerous tournaments where he won many 1st place and Grand Championship titles from white belt to blackbelt divisions.  Sensei Davis has the distinction of being Grandmaster McNeal’s first student in the Rolla location, and he remains the longest remaining Kifaru practitioner in the Midwest.  Sensei Davis has also trained under other great Martial Arts masters which include, but are not limited to, Joseph B. Walker (Shots Fired: Surviving an Active Shooter/Assailant), Alexander Archie, Steve Muhammad (Sanders) and Donnie Williams (Enter The Dragon), Robert Temple, Tadashi Yamashita (American Ninja), Sultan Uddin (Mortal Combat: Annihilation), and Darryl Vidal (The Karate Kid).

In 2018, Grandmaster McNeal handed Kifaru-Jitsu over to Grandmaster Joseph B. Walker after suffering a medical condition that left him unable to provide physical instruction.  In June of 2019, Sensei Carl Davis was promoted to 3rd degree blackbelt in Las Vegas, Nevada by Master Walker, and he sat on the promotion board.

Sensei Carl Davis served his country in both the Navy and the Missouri Army National Guard.  In the early 90s, Davis was a Fireman in the Navy, and was a Power Generation Repairer in the Guard in the late 90s.  In 2012, Sensei Davis married and decided to re-enter military service in the Missouri National Guard in order to provide for his family.  He became a full time Guardsman upon completion of basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. During his years in military service, Davis continued to train under Grandmaster McNeal and Grandmaster Walker, and progressed through the ranks.  In 2021, Sensei Davis deployed to the Southwest Border mission in Texas where he was a Unit Admin NCO for the Soldiers on the Border.  He also provided Karate instruction to students during PT sessions while on deployment as he was well known as a Martial Arts practitioner.  Davis received a Department of Defense Coin for exceptional performance, an Army Commendation Medal, an Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Device, Armed Forces Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal.

Today, Sensei Davis remains a full-time non-commissioned officer for the Missouri Army National Guard, as well as the Midwest Representative of the Kifaru-Jitsu Academy of Martial Arts in the Jefferson City area.  Davis continues to train under Master Walker and is also an instructor. He also continues to promote the Martial Arts and Kifaru by serving as an official for the Sport Karate PROMAC (Professional Martial Arts Conference).
