Whether it’s during these tumultuous times, or when things do calm down, if you are in the immediate vicinity when two or more combatants are engaged in a physical altercation, resist the urge to watch the affray or to jump in in your attempt to keep the peace. If it is not your job to keep the peace and you may lack the requisite skills to effectively stop the two combatants from fighting each other. You also don’t want to be in a position where you are unintentionally struck by either of the combatants.
There also may exist a very real possibility that others may jump into the fight against you. I have seen where when a physical altercation takes place, sometimes there is a frenzy that is present in almost the same as when sharks are feeding.
Once the fight begins, everyone present can be in danger of falling victim to the violence either directly or indirectly. In many situations, one or the other combatants may elect to produce a gun or a knife. What may have started out as a fist fight between two people has now evolved into using deadly weapons. If shots are fired, you do not want to be anywhere near this altercation and you may be struck by gunfire.
Unless you are rescuing a loved one and need to jump into the fight to save them (and then possibly yourself) never stand around to watch, witness or record any fight. Leave the entire area and report the altercation by calling 9-1-1.
