Active Shootings are still a threat. As evidenced on New Year’s day in New Orleans, LA, a man with a truck drove into a crowd of people and after running over several pedestrians, he got out of his truck and opened fire on those in the crowd.
Always give some thought to what you could do if this were to happen to you. Remember that you are not supposed to be the hero and charge the shooter from across the room. Doing so will announce your presence, and you will more likely than not be the next one shot.
If you need to defend yourself, you want to be out of the shooter’s eyesight which will allow you to ambush the shooter. Regardless of how you defend yourself, even if you are successful in disarming or disabling the shooter, you still need to survive contact with responding law enforcement.
All the responding officers may know is that shots have been fired and the general location. So when they arrive, you don’t want to pose a threat by holding a firearm. If you need more information, feel free to reach out to me for a more detailed conversation. Be safe!
