During July of this year, I started a segment called let’s play a game.  The game is designed to make each person come up with one or more movements and to see the possible variations of a given technique.

For now, this will be done with not only “street techniques” NOT for tournament competition techniques.

Here is a brief example of a street technique where I ask the student to fill in the missing movement.

As the opponent throws a right hand punch to your face, you block with a left outer forearm block and a right palm heel strike to the opponent’s chin.  You immediately follow up with a left hand punch to the opponent’s torso and a right elbow strike to the opponent’s left jaw.  What would your next move or moves be (no more than 2 moves or strikes) in order to take your opponent off their feet?

This question allows the student to use one of these options, OR an alternative of their choosing.

1: Right leg osotogari;

2: Spin around counterclockwise placing your back to the opponent and execute a right hand/arm ogoshi;

3: Or, after the spin, execute a tiatoshi across your right leg.

Look for more of these in the near future where eventually I will mix up things to make it more challenging.
